On the way to Kazbegi we stop in Mtskheta - the old capital of Georgia: visit historical and architectural complex of Jvari, The church of the VI century blends into the surrounding landscape and has an unforgettable view of Mtskheta. Monuments of the town of Mtskheta - ancient capital of Georgia - are listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Among those is Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, where you touch the walls that date back to the XI century and see Life-giving pillar under which rests the tunic of Jesus Christ. Samtavro convent which is from the same period as Svetitskhoveli also houses numerous relics.

Continue to Ananuri castle belonged to the house of the Eristavi of Aragvi - a violent local ruler. The characteristic architectural design of the late medieval period includes a fortress, two churches, an old watch tower, prison and civic buildings. Located on the famous Georgian Military Highway it stood as a guardian to the Northern boarders of Georgia. A picturesque view of reservoir spread bellow opens from the base of the Ananuri Fortress.

The next stop is Jvari Pass - a place where the land ends and the sky begins, clouds float and springs flow. At the end of the path we come to The gates of the Caucasus - beautiful Dariali gorge. On its bottom lies the settlement of Stephantsminda. Just nearby proudly erect stands one of the symbols of Georgia - Trinity Church at the top of Gergeti adorning the Dariali gorge against the backdrop of huge Mount Kazbek. Return to Tbilisi.
